“My family has needs, and one of those needs is for children to be able to define their own lives,” the Devil Wears Prada actor added. “It doesn’t even occur to me to connect the two, save via appreciation that they complement one another so well. But they serve each other via me, not through a location outside of me.” The actress, who has previously stated that she would explore having another kid, has also publicly discussed her reproductive journey. “For everyone going through infertility and conception hell, please know it was not a straight line to either of my pregnancies,” she said on an Instagram selfie announcing her second pregnancy in 2019. “Sending you extra love.”

In a March interview with Vanity Fair, Hathaway revealed why she chose to be so open about her pregnancy, while also revealing that she had a miscarriage in 2015. “Given the pain I felt while trying to get pregnant, it would’ve felt disingenuous to post something all the way happy when I know the story is much more nuanced than that for everyone,” Hathaway said in an interview with Vanity Fair in March.
