A Hollywood film producer verified what many Aquaman fans had long thought when he spoke out about whether or not to replace Amber Heard in the role of Mera. Heard originally played the DC Comics character in 2018, when she co-starred with Jason Momoa in his major role as Arthur Curry. The film earned mixed reviews, with a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 66 percent, but it was enough to entice filmmakers to bring Momoa back for the 2023 sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Heard also returned for the sequel, although her appearance sparked discussion about her famous defamation case with ex-husband Johnny Depp, 61. During the trial, Heard stated, “I battled hard to stay in the movie. They did not want to feature me in the film. After receiving the screenplay, they revised it, removing the action sections. The screenplay depicted a battle between my character and another character without revealing any spoilers. “They basically took a bunch out of my role,” said the actress. “They just removed a bunch.”

However, Walter Hamada, the former president of DC Studios, asserted that Warner Bros. intentionally removed Heard’s sequences from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, arguing that her role remained unaffected by the case against Depp. Instead, Hamada claimed that a disagreement between her and Momoa called into question Heard’s homecoming. He stated, “They didn’t have much chemistry together.” The truth is that it is fairly rare in movies for two protagonists to lack chemistry.” Some Aquaman fans noticed this “lack of chemistry,” and several of them mentioned it on Twitter.

A single tweet begins: “Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom review: Amber Heard only has a few lines, the audience dislikes her, and the tension/lack of chemistry between her and Jason Momoa translated to the screen.” During the trial, Hamada stated that while movie magic and editing may produce a fantastic on-screen interaction, it can take a ‘lot of effort to get there’.

Despite early doubts, Heard returned to the film, which got an 81 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes’ ‘Popcornometer’. Critics, on the other hand, were less enthused, giving the film only a 34 percent rating.
Heard also reprised her role as Mera in Zack Snyder’s Justice League in 2021.
