Gwen Stefani claims she ‘never even knew’ Blake Shelton ‘existed’ before meeting him on The Voice

Gwen Stefani knew nothing about Blake Shelton before meeting him on The Voice!
In an interview with The Guardian published Thursday, Nov. 14, the 55-year-old “Don’t Speak” singer was asked if she would be open to working on a country record with Shelton, 48, in the future. While Stefani has just dabbled in country music thus far, she is open to it.
“I would love to,” she responded, before disclosing additional information about their connection.
“I never listened to country music, so while Blake was super successful, I never even knew he existed before I met him,” she said.
Stefani, who met Shelton in 2014 while coaching on The Voice, then stated that she enjoys “singing with him.”
“He’s very humble and doesn’t realize how good he is,” she remarked about the “God’s Country” singer, whom she will marry in 2021. “There’s something so attractive about that.”
On Friday, November 15, Stefani debuted her fourth studio album, Bouquet. On the album, she discusses the repercussions of her 2016 divorce from Bush rocker Gavin Rossdale, 59, and the joy she’s found in creating a new life for Shelton and her three boys, Kingston, 18, Zuma, 16, and Apollo, 10.
“The last four years of my life, I got engaged, then I got married and started my life over,” Stefani recently told PEOPLE.
“I’ve wanted to get married and have children since I was a small girl, just like my parents. That ambition was absolutely wrecked; it had been smashed, and I had to find out how I was going to move on and create a new dream,” she continued. “And God putting Blake in my life was just that miracle.”
The album includes a joyful duet with Shelton, “Purple Irises,” which they performed live at the 2024 Academy of Country Music Awards.
Stefani is relatively new to the country music business; however, she made her Grand Ole Opry debut alongside Shelton in 2022. They played their duets, “Nobody but You” and “Happy Anywhere.”
“I’m so nervous; I’m so excited. This is one of those things that you don’t dream about if you’re me—and then all of a sudden I’m here with Blake Shelton,” Stefani remarked to the cheering audience. “It’s a miracle; I’m so grateful. Thank you so much.”
