The postal worker received an invitation to Thanksgiving dinner. The reason is heartbreaking…

This year, one Illinois family has a lot to be thankful for, as well as an additional guest at their Thanksgiving table, due to a stranger’s unselfish deed.
On Saturday, Nov. 16, Guy Miller was walking his dog Bentley outside his Aurora home when United States Postal Service (USPS) employee Jaylen Lockhart saw him fall, according to NBC Chicago.
Lockhart told the newspaper that he witnessed Miller take the “tumble” in his truck’s rearview mirror, so he promptly jumped out to rescue him and called 911. He waved down some neighbors, obtained Miller’s address, and informed his wife, Marcia, that he had suffered harm.
“I wasn’t quite sure what I was getting myself into. But I knew whatever he was going through on that ground, we’d get through it together,” Lockhart told WLS-TV.
According to a statement on the municipal government’s official Facebook page, Miller is “bruised but will be fine.”
“Jaylen’s quick-thinking, selfless actions helped to save the day,” according to the article.
Following the event, Lockhart gained an extended family in the Millers, who asked him and his loved ones to join them for Thanksgiving.
“I said, ‘What are you doing for Thanksgiving? Do you have a family? Yeah?’ We answered, ‘We’re family, absolutely.’” Marcia told NBC Chicago that it was “just really good to see kindness, compassion, and care in the world.”
Mayor Richard Irvin presented Lockhart with the Mayor’s Award of Service after he helped light the city’s holiday tree at the annual Aurora Winter Lights Fest.
“You make us all Aurora proud,” Irvin said to Lockhart at the event, according to WFLD.
It was a moment that the postal worker will never forget.
Lockhart expressed her feelings of blessing and gratitude to WFLD. “I will hold this near and dear to my heart.”
