While we were debating color possibilities, I painted a new resident’s nails at work today, and she requested the color clear. “CLEAR!” was all that came to mind. That’s not fun.

She told me, “My hands are ugly, and I don’t want to draw attention to them,” when I questioned her intentions. “Your hands tell the story of your life,” I thoughtfully replied. They tell stories of adventure, love, and care. These hands have held and touched things that most people can only dream of experiencing in their lifetimes. Following that, she decided to paint her nails pink.

The nurse was able to raise the old woman’s self-esteem, which is excellent. We can all learn from this!
