Anya Taylor-Joy showed a devastating reaction when asked whether she is ‘self-conscious’ about her eyes

Anya Taylor-Joy once responded devastatingly to a reporter who asked if she had ever been self-conscious about her eyes.

Anya Taylor-Joy, 28, made her breakthrough in an episode of the English detective drama series Endeavour more than a decade ago before playing Thomasin in Robert Eggers’ The Witch.

Since then, the actress has acted in a variety of films, including The Menu and Amsterdam, and more recently, as Alia Atreides in Dune: Part Two and the main character in George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

Many television viewers will remember the Florida native from her role in Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit.

While promoting M. Night Shyamalan’s psychological thriller, Taylor-Joy chatted with W Magazine on her early Hollywood achievements.

During the interview, the journalist characterized her eyes as ‘lovely’ before saying, “They’re so far apart.”

“When you were a kid, did they make you feel self-conscious?” the reporter inquired.

This prompted the Golden Globe-winning actor to ponder the numerous negative remarks she has received about her beauty.

“I vividly recall the days of Facebook, when I was unaware that my eyes were far apart, until someone tagged me in a picture of a fish and said, ‘This is you because your eyes are like this.’”

“I was really upset about it, didn’t enjoy it, and kind of stopped looking in mirrors for a very long time.”

At the time, the actress admitted that she didn’t spend much time in front of mirrors because she didn’t want to ‘deal with [her] face.’.

“Unfortunately, y’all do,” she joked.

Taylor-Joy shared further childhood experiences, including how the positioning of her eyes affected her ability to play sports.

She added, “Sports are fascinating because I realized that when I was little, my head was much smaller and my eyes were on both sides of my face.

“In the playground, it became common knowledge that if you wanted me to catch a ball, you had to throw it to the side of my head, because if you threw it right here, I would be like, ‘Oh my God.’” What? What happened?” What’s going on?”

Taylor-Joy has since stated that her face has ‘grown a bit more’.

She explained, “I’m starting to feel like myself. I’m a little less awkward.”
“I’m still growing a lot. I’m still getting taller; I gained around two inches last year.” I’m not sure what to do with all of my limbs.”

Taylor-Joy may not have felt she understood what to do with her limbs, but whatever she did was successful, as she continues to get major jobs in Hollywood.

Her next projects include Apple TV+’s survival action thriller The Gorge and Romain Gavras’ Sacrifice.

Taylor-Joy will join an ensemble cast that includes Chris Evans, Salma Hayek, Charli XCX, and Ambika Mod from One Day.
