Recently, Josh Brolin released his memoir, which includes some unexpected revelations that many people were unaware of. This book is fresh from his heart and provides followers with an insight into his life and upbringing.
In his memoir, he delves into his mother’s unconventional parenting style. During an interview for his book, “From Under the Truck,” he told the account of a night of heavy drinking that culminated with his mother’s lover falling out beneath a car.
Childhood memories.
His mother, Jane, was an avid animal conservationist. When Josh Brolin and his brother Jess were kids, Mom enjoyed playing a crazy game with them. She’d instruct cougars, coyotes, and bobcats to “Sic ’em,” and then they’d chase the guys!
Brolin stated, “You knew if you didn’t get on the other side of that shut door within a couple of seconds, you’d be cleaning up fresh bloody marks somewhere on your body for the rest of the day.”
Even if these stories seem terrifying, Brolin adds that he is “loath to say” they were horrible. In an interview, he admitted that, while his mother may be difficult to cope with, he always wanted her around.
Sadly, Brolin’s mother died in a vehicle accident in 1995 at the age of 55. During his drug issues, he used to believe that 55 was an appropriate age to die, feeling that by then, a person had lived a full life.
Josh Brolin Now
Brolin is now 56 years old, a year older than his mother was when she died. He now understands his mistake about life expectancy, realizing that 55 isn’t quite that old. After a lengthy struggle, he eventually beat his addiction. James Brolin, an actor, and the legendary Barbra Streisand are his parents. Brolin has described how Streisand has been like a stepmother to him.
He frequently praises Barbra Streisand and her approach to ‘tough love.’ In one interview, he described a day when he went to their home and stated, “I’ll have a glass of wine.” She inclined her head at him, prompting him to repeat, “I’ll have a glass of red wine, please.”
He said, “She took a deep breath and then asked me, ‘Aren’t you an alcoholic?’” Her boldness was impressive. She always spoke her opinion without hesitation when we chatted.”
He recalled the conversation: “I said, ‘I’m an alcoholic, but I like red wine.’” ‘You definitely shouldn’t drink,’ she answered.
He cherishes those rough love moments. Now 56, he says he likes the perks of getting older and being sober.
“I enjoy aging.” The actor explained that it’s a perfect opportunity to relax and not always be in a hurry.
Addiction Struggle.
In his memoir, he describes how his addiction began. He recalls using marijuana at the age of nine and taking acid at thirteen. One of the most moving scenes he remembers is when he visited his grandma while she was dying and smelled heavily of alcohol. This encounter was a turning point in his life.
When he arrived at his 99-year-old grandmother’s bedside, he was still recovering from the previous night’s hangover. That incident made him realize that he wanted to live for many more years and improve his life.
Brolin elaborated: “I realized that would be the last time I ever drank.” This happened in 2013, and it’s been more than 10 years since he decided to live a sober life.
“I genuinely appreciate staying sober. “I have much more fun,” he stated. “I’m certain that any challenges I encounter would be significantly more challenging if I were intoxicated.”
